Dermisol Cream
Dosage and administration: Dermisol Cream is for topical use only. Dermisol Cream should be applied twice daily although more frequent applications may be made if necessary.
Wounds: The cream should be spread liberally on to wound surfaces and before each new application, it is advisable to wash the area with Dermisol Multicleanse Solution so that loose slough and cream from the previous application are removed without raising the pH.
Otitis externa: In cases of otitis externa, ears should be cleaned with Dermisol Multicleanse Solution prior to the introduction of Dermisol Cream into the external auditory canal.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Dermisol Cream, including answers from our team.

Can this be used on sore skin near dogs eye?
The datasheet for this product states the following:
Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes because of the low pH and a possible irritant effect.
It is therefore advised to not use the product on areas where it could potentially enter the eye.

Can this be used on a sheeps wound?
Dermisol is licensed for use in horses, dogs, cats and cattle. Any use in sheep is off license and should only be done alongside advice from your vet, we advise contacting your vet regarding this. I apologise that we cannot be of much help.

Hello my golden retriever suffers hot spots on her skin. I use a hibiscrub creamer, but I need a good cream to heal and take the itch out. Is this cream suitable for this condition
The datasheet for Dermisol states the following:
Dermisol Cream aids healing by removing dead and necrotic tissue from affected areas.
This is achieved by differential swelling of necrotic and healthy tissues leading to separation of the devitalised areas and embedded debris.
If the hot spot does not contain excessive dead/necrotic tissue then it may not be the most suitable cream. If you need a cream/gel to aid with normal skin healing then a manuka honey based product would be suitable, such as Aniwell Manuka Honey.

Can i use this onnmy xats eyes as they aew krusty and cant open them ?? If not what would u recomend ?
It is not safe to use Dermisol in your cat's eyes, it could do serious damage if applied in this way.
It is best to see your vet for this condition, eye problems can worsen quickly and it is important to rule out more serious causes of the issue. If you wish to order an over the counter product to clean/disinfect the eye then Vetericyn VF Ophthalmic Eye Drops are a good choice.

Will this work for skin allergies caused by pollen please?
Dermisol Cream may be used to encourage healing in horses, cattle, dogs and cats particularly when this process is impaired by the presence of necrotic tissue, coagulum, debris or wax. This may occur in cases of traumatic injury, surgical wounds, infected wounds and otitis externa.
It is not intended for use in allergies unless any of the above are occuring with it. If you wish to find products to help with skin allergies then I recommend checking out our skin & coat range on our website.

Can this be used on a dogs genitals?
Dermisol Cream may be used to encourage healing in horses, cattle, dogs
and cats particularly when this process is impaired by the presence of
necrotic tissue, coagulum, debris or wax. This may occur in cases of
traumatic injury, surgical wounds, infected wounds and otitis externa.
As long as the area is skin then the product can be applied, however the genitals are a particular sensitive area. I would only use here alongside your vets advice as any wound at this site should be checked over by them anyway.

Hello I think my dog has Impetigo. Can this cream be used on it?
Impetigo is most commonly caused by a bacterial infection. I recommend getting this diagnosed by your vet before assuming it is the diagnosis as there can be many similar conditions that look like this.
Dermisol does not treat infections it aids wound healing by removing dead and necrotic tissue from affected areas. If you wish to treat an area of infected skin then you can use antibacterial scrubs like Hibi Scrub. Dilute this 1 part hibi in 4 parts warm water and use to clean the affected are twice daily. This can dry the skin though so it's important to know this is a skin infection and not another problem. You should ideally see your vet before assuming it is.

any goof for yeast infection on dog ear flaps
This product promoted wound healing, it will not help treat a yeast infection. I recommend using a cleaning wipe for this, such as Vetruus CLX wipes. If used twice daily this can clear a mild superficial yeast infection.

I am using on my dog as sore allergy patch under his armpit. How long can I use this cream for?
Dermisol is recommended for the following use as per the datasheet:
Dermisol Cream may be used to
encourage healing in horses, cattle, dogs and cats particularly when
this process is impaired by the presence of necrotic tissue, coagulum,
debris or wax. This may occur in cases of traumatic injury, surgical
wounds, infected wounds and otitis externa.
Using the cream to treat inflamed skin from allergies is not a normal use of the product. It may help soothe the skin but if the underlying allergy is still present then it is unlikely to resolve the problem. There is not a maximum number of days you can use the medication for though on the datasheet in answer to your question. It can be used for as long as it is needed.
I recommend following your vets advice on treatment though if the allergies are this bad.

My vet has advised to use dermisol on my horses legs & wrap in cling film to soften scabs as he has vasculitis. I am waiting for my cream to be delivered. Can I use anything else in the meantim
I could not recommend anything else, it would be best to ask your own vet about this. Regular bathing in dilute salt water is generally very safe and helpful, but obviously more time intensive for you.
