Below are some recent questions we've received regarding No Bute The Original Horse Supplement, including answers from our team.
Michaela
Can this be given to a horse taking Precend?
Yes, this supplement can be used safely alongside Prascend.
Ashley Francis
Is No Bute suitable for long term use?
Yes, No Bute can be used safely in the long term at maintenance dosing levels.
Claire
Which would be better for my 26 yr old mare that is just showing signs of stiffness, standard or prem. She is still in light ridden work.
The Premium version contains additional ingredients to help support the joints so if your vet thinks joint issues are related to the stiffness then it is worth using the Premium version. If you are unsure then you may just want to stick with the Standard verison.

My horse contracted colitis from bute so I’m looking for a natural alternative as recommended by my vet. Just wanted to confirm this is totally free of NSAID drugs?
Yes this supplement does not contain NSAIDs. Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs are prescription only medications which can only be purchased alongside a written prescription from your vet. This supplement is over the counter.
Chantelle
Does this have the same painkilling & anti inflammatory effect as prescription Bute?
This supplement is a herbal product primarily based around devils claw which has anecdotal anti-inflammatory properties. Phenylbutazone (bute) has been proven to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body and is a licensed medication. It is therefore not a suitable replacement for bute but anecodtally can help reduce pain/inflammation.
It is important to follow your vets advice primarily on treating your horse's condition.

Hi can no bute be given to a horse with COPD and can you use it adhoc rather than do a loading dose
If your horse's COPD is being treated with steroid medication then I would avoid No Bute, it contains Devils Claw which may act similarly to the steroids and so interfere with this treatment. If your horse is not being treated with medications for the COPD then this is fine.
It is best used as per the guidelines as it will need to build up in the body before the beneficial effects are seen.
Angie
Would this product be suitable for long term use on a veteran still in ridden work?
Yes this supplement is safe in horses with PPID. It should not be used with certain medications, namely NSAID medications like Phenylbutazone. So if your horse is being treated by your vet I recommend discussing it with them first.
Ilona Poole
My Shetland mare has mild laminitis, how would I administer this?
This product is most easily administered into the feed. It is worth noting it should not be used alongside NSAID medications like phenylbutazone (bute) as the active ingredient Devils Claw may have similar anti-inflammatory effects.

Hi
I have this for my horse but she has gone onto bute full time. Can this product be used for my arthritic dog?
This product is intended for use in horses only and unfortunately I cannot advise it's use in dogs. This is because there is no known safe doseage for dogs and it cannot be guaranteed as safe in them.
If you are looking for products for your arthritic dog then I strongly advise our own brand Joint Force. This can be safely used in dogs.

Can you give a horse no bute and glucosamine together ?
Yes No Bute can be used safely with an additional Glucosamine supplement. The No Bute Premium already has Glucosamine in so you probably don't need to supplement more alongside, unless you are using the No Bute Standard version.
