The g-Pet Plus Veterinary Glucometer is a useful device for monitoring animal diabetes. As a handheld meter it is able to be used at home, in a practice or in the field. g-Pet Plus provides an excellent way of regularly checking glucose blood levels in diabetic dogs and cats.
The g-Pet Plus Veterinary Glucometer is useful for any vet practice or diabetic pet owner. A 0.7μl sample of venous or capillary blood is required for analysis; an in-built confirmation window can show the user whether the sample is of sufficient volume before the test goes ahead. The alarm notification system enables the user to set regular reminders for testing. This is a useful feature when monitoring dog diabetes and cat diabetes.
Human glucometers are not always accurate when measuring glucose levels in animals. This is because red blood cell size and the distribution of glucose within the blood differs from species to species. A proportion of glucose is contained within the red blood cells and the remainder in the surrounding plasma. Humans have a higher haematocrit compared to cats, dogs and horses, as well as larger red blood cells. Therefore, the distribution of glucose within plasma is proportionally much lower in humans compared to these animals, as a larger portion of glucose is contained within the red blood cells. Subsequently, these differences in glucose distribution have a bearing on the glucose result when testing animals with a meter designed for human use, as false results are reported in some instances.
The gPet PLUS veterinary glucose meter is calibrated specifically for use in cats, dogs and horses. Each gPet PLUS meter contain all relevant calibration information to ensure an accurate result is reported for each species. Vets no longer need to persist with inaccurate human meters as there is now a low cost, veterinary specific alternative.

We was a little apprehensive to start off with as having a cat diagnosed with diabetes was a shock on its own, however once we got our heads around things we found the Glucometre easy to use. If we hadn't bought this it would have cost us £37 per week to get furbabies bloods checked, if your thinking of buying one, don't hesitate they are fantastic. Bonus for us is no more traveling we can check bloods in the comfort of our home, plus our furbabie isn't stressed with traveling to the vets.

The product in its self seems to be easy to use and setup.
The problem I find is with the lancing device .
In my case, there was no instructions on how to load and operate the device with my kit .
The problem is when I open the device and place the Lancet fully in the sleeve reassemble and turn the depth gauge to max number five I still can’t see the needle went fired obviously there is something wrong .
So I took the device to my Vet, Who by the way uses the same G-pet plus.
Well even he could not make the Lansing device work .
He advised me to send an email to Woodley customer service . The only email in the packaging is sales .
Which I sent on the 25 of May.
At the moment I have not received a reply and therefore cannot use the plus meter as I am unable to obtain blood sample . Great product but it’s a shame about the lack of response .

Recently purchased the G-Pet meter from Viovet, which we couldn't calibrate.
We contacted Viovet, who replaced the meter within 48 hours.....the replacement works OK, and we received quick and courteous service from the customer service department.
Would always recommend Viovet as a supplier of the many products we purchase from them.

Very good meter. Instruction book easy to follow to set up meter. Very small amount of blood required when you get to testing compared with a meter used for humans.. The only down side is the cost of the test strips with an expiry date, other than that , it is a good meter.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding G-Pet Veterinary Glucometer Plus, including answers from our team.
Michelle
Are these coded test strips or can you use generic test strips from a pharmacy?
The G-Pet Plus glucometer can only be used with the G-Pet Plus test strips. Generic test strips that are not G-Pet branded may not work accurately in the device.

Does the Gpet plus glucometer give readings in the UK mmol/L scale
Hello,
Thank you for getting in touch.
This is readable in mmol/l or mg/dl.
Hope that helps,
VioVet
cost of test strips
Why do the test strips cost more than the whole kit? I'm better off getting a new kit than a pack of test strips. Is this right?
This is a very odd situation but we have verified the prices with our wholesaler. Our prices are a correct reflection of the prices we are charged. It makes no logical sense and I think it is ridiculous, but there it is.
